The IEEE MetaVZine newsletter is provided by IEEE Metaverse. Submissions go through a thorough review process, and our Editorial Board (EB) members play the most critical role in ensuring quality and authenticity in the articles we publish. Our EB is responsible for the fair and thorough review and evaluation of a paper’s originality, relevance, significance, technical correctness, organization and presentation, and references in a timely fashion.

 

Peter Corcoran

Peter CorcoranPeter has been a University Professor & Lecturer at the University of Galway in Ireland for more than 30 years and a member of the IEEE Consumer Electronics/Technology Society for more than 25 years. He was founding editor of IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine (2011-2016). He was also a co-founder of FotoNation Ltd., the first company to provide computational imaging solutions for digital cameras with its real-time red-eye detection and correction technologies (2003 – 2008).

He was a co-founder of FotoNation Ltd., the first company to provide computational imaging solutions for digital cameras with its real-time red-eye detection and correction technologies.He was involved in developing a patent portfolio for red-eye where he is a co-inventor on more than 80 granted patents.

More recently he is one of 6 lead Principal Investigators on the Irish Center for Research Training in Digitally Enhanced Reality (www.d-real.ie). Funded by Science Foundation Ireland this center for Ph.D. training supports c.120 Ph.D. researchers working on a range of emerging digital technologies.

Peter’s research interests span a range of consumer technologies including smart-imaging/advanced digital imaging solutions; biometrics and authentication techniques for handheld & IoT devices; AI, deep learning, data augmentation & data generation (GANs); internet technologies & IoT; embedded Edge-AI and neural accelerators; data-privacy and synthetic data.

Assadig Almhdy Abdelrhman Abakr

Assadig Almhdy Abdelrhman Abakr received a B. Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering (Comm.) from Blue Nile University, Sudan, in 2018, and a M. Eng. in Information and Comm. Engineering from Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China in 2022. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Technological University Dublin. His research interests include XR Holographic Comm., Computer vision, wireless comm., and network and information security.

 

Faisal Mohd

As a PhD candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Ottawa, Faisal leads research in AI-driven haptic solutions for virtual reality at the Multimedia Communications Research Laboratory. His work focuses on developing advanced haptic technologies that enhance user experiences in VR environments, bridging the gap between physical and virtual interactions. Faisal actively contributes to the academic community through conferences and workshops, emphasizing the practical applications of our innovations in the metaverse.

 

Kamran Gholizdeh HamlAbadi

Kamran Gholizadeh HamlAbadi is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Ottawa’s MCRLab. With extensive experience as a software developer in various industries, he now combines his academic pursuits with collaboration on real-world applications.

As a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant, his interests span VR, AR, MR, XR, Digital Twin, Metaverse, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, 3D Reconstruction, and Computer Vision, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary research.

 

Sunder Ali Khowaja

Sunder Ali Khowaja (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in industrial information systems engineering from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, South Korea. He has worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Tech University of Korea, Republic of Korea. He is currently serving as an Assistant Lecturer with Technological University, Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Khowaja has more than 13 years of academic experience as he served as Lecturer and Assistant Professor at University of Sindh, Pakistan. Dr. Khowaja had the experience of working with multinational companies as a Network and RF Engineer from 2008 to 2011.

Dr. Khowaja has published more than 60 research articles in national, international journals, and conference proceedings. His research interests include computer vision, self-supervised learning, federated learning, privacy-preservation machine learning, and data analytics. He is the recipient of runner-up for UG2+ Competition (Atmospheric Turbulence Mitigation) at CVPR2022 and second runner-up for UG2+ Competition (Target Coded Restoration Challenge) at CVPR 2023. Furthermore, he has achieved Top ten positions in several of the CVPR challenges from 2022 to 2023, including PBVS Multi-modal Aerial Object Recognition Challenge, PBVS Thermal Image SuperResolution, NTIRE Image SuperResolution Challenge, NTIRE Video SuperResolution Challenge, and NTIRE Image Denoising Challenge. He is also a Regular Reviewer of notable journals, including IEEE Transaction and Journals, Elsevier, and Springer. He is also currently serving as an Associate Editor for PLoS ONE.

In addition, Dr. Khowaja is serving as a Guest Editor for special issues in IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, Computers and Electrical Engineering, Human-centric Computing and Information Sciences, Journal of King Saud University: Computer and Information Sciences, and Sustainable Energy Technology and Assessments. His research interests include Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Privacy Preservation Machine Learning, and Metaverse.
